Armistice Day 2018

This year was a special anniversary for the Armistice Parades. It marked a 100 years since the end of the First World War. The ceasefire came into force at 11am on the 11th November 1918.

Remarkably this year’s Remembrance Sunday actually fell on the 11th November 2018. With various events scattered around the globe to mark such an occasion.

Nearer home and within our Province our Secretary and Provincial Steward WBro Andy Harvey laid a wreath at the Horndean Memorial on behalf of Five Heads Lodge to mark the occasion. Andy is pictured below enjoying a well-deserved drink after the parade.

Further afield saw W.Bro Mark Winchester, WBro Nat Andrade and Bro Mark Charles attended Grand Lodge for an Armistice Centenary Meeting held by the Circuit of Service Lodges.

The lodge was opened, business conducted and closed. Simon Callow, other celebrities and the Chelsea Pensioners were invited into the Lodge for a Centenary Celebration. The celebration took the form of Poems, songs, Lighting Displays and pyrotechnics.

At the end of the meeting brethren paraded past an old World War One Vickers Gun and placed a poppy on the gun and surrounding artefacts.

Ladies Night 2017

The Lodge held its annual Ladies Night on the 21st April 2017 at the Portsmouth Marriott Hotel, where the Worshipful Master, Nat Andrade and his wife, Allison were accompanied by 89 guests.

A relaxed night was had by all and it went extremely well. The Photo Booth was well used and abused by most guests, which added to the fun of the night.  The raffle made a total of £560.00 and will be split between the Stroke Association and SSAFA.

The Worshipful Master and his wife would like to thank all of those who attended and also those who donated raffle prizes.  A special thanks goes to Bro Tony and Bro Tim for their help and support during the raffle as well a Bro Jim for an excellent rendition of the Ladies Song. We hope the hangovers have subsided now!

The event was well attended by our Ladies, guest and Lodge visitors; the Haggis was duly piped in and piped out and was addressed by one of our Brethren in suitable attire which enriched an excellent and lively festive Board.

The Masters Charities: SSAFA and The Stroke Association (Havant Branch) will prosper well due to the generosity from those attended and he thanks one and all for their generosity.

Platinum Award and our 1st Provincial Grand Steward

We have more that one item to be smiling about in this update:  We have been awarded the Platinum Award for the ‘Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys' -2016 Festival (Festival Gavel).  Secondly one of our Brethren has been made a Provincial Grand Steward.

The Festival Gavel represents our commitment to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Province, Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys 2016 Festival. We are proud of this achievement, as there were only 17 Lodges within the Province that achieved the Platinum Award. This is a remarkable achievement and congratulations goes out to all our Brethren, a very special thanks goes to our Charity Steward who collected our award at the AGM but also managed to motivate the Brethren.

Brother Andy Harvey has become the first Provincial Grand Steward of Five Heads Lodge. Brother Andy received his award at the AGM where the ‘Lodge Rent-a-Crowd made their presents known to all at the AGM.

This rank is a culmination of excellent Ritual, two years as master of the Lodge and also giving up his spare time to assist Masonry in the Community. The members are proud of Brother Andy and wish him well and no doubt we will see him go on to better and further things in the future.
